USA v India – ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup West Indies & USA 2024
Team India continued their winning run in the T20 World Cup 2024 by beating the USA by seven wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June Wednesday, 12. With the win, the Men in Blue have confirmed their berth in the Super 8.
Coming into the game on the back of two consecutive wins, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma asked the USA to bat first after winning the toss. The Indian bowlers once again displayed impeccable form to restrict the co-hosts to 110/8 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, returning with figures of 4/9 from his full quota.
The Men in Blue were in a spot of bother early in the run chase after losing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma cheaply. They were reduced to 10/2 at one stage but Suryakumar Yadav stitched together two crucial partnerships to bail the team out of danger. India eventually crossed the target in 18.2 overs to book a Super 8 berth.
On that note, let’s take a look at five experts’ reactions to India’s win over the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024.
#1 Navjot Singh Sidhu
Cricketer-turned-commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu hailed the Indian bowlers, stating that it is the first time the bowlers have won the Men in Blue three consecutive matches.
During a discussion on Star Sports, Sidhu said:
‘India’s batting has been winning us matches for such a long time. However, it’s the first time bowling has won India every match. The positive for me is that the Indian team is playing as a herd.’
‘The wolves will always hunt in packs. Now it’s no longer a pair, it’s now become a pack. It’s a herd of five or six people and someone or the other raises his hand every time,’ he added.
#2 Irfan Pathan
Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan reckoned that with Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube among runs, the team is getting better with time.
Taking to X, he wrote:
‘Well done boys. Now that Surya & Dube scoring runs team is looking better and better. Now Jaddu needs get into form so complete team is in form. Virat Kohli will score big soon just wait!’
#3 Suresh Raina
Another former cricketer Suresh Raina also showered praise on the cricketers after a comprehensive victory over co-hosts USA.
‘What a match! India clinches victory against the USA! Huge shoutout to for that amazing bowling spell and for his phenomenal innings. So proud of #TeamIndia! #T20Worldcup #INDvsUSA,’ Raina wrote on X.
#4 Piyush Chawla
Senior leg-spinner Piyush Chawal was happy with India’s performance on a ‘dicey’ Nassau County International Cricket Stadium wicket.
Rohit Sharma and company kept a 100 percent winning record, securing three back-to-back victories.
“The pitch in New York was very dicey and the way India performed on that pitch and won three out of three games, so there are very good chances going forward,’ Chawla told reporters.
#5 Robin Uthappa
World Cup winner Robin Uthappa praised Suryakumar Yadav for his mature half-century before lauding the USA team for putting in a spirited fight.
He wrote on X:
‘Good win for India. SKY’s mature 50 & fantastic bowling by the team, especially Arshdeep Singh was commendable. USA put up a good fight but it wasn’t their day today.’
India will next be in action on Saturday, June 15, when they lock horns with Canada in Florida.
