Kareena Kapoor Khan recalls she wasn’t sure of taking up the role of ‘Geet’ in Jab We Met

In an interaction with Mid-Day, Kareena Kapoor Khan spoke about her iconic film, Jab We Met, clocking 16 years of release, and shared some fond anecdotes about the same. The diva mentioned how, in the first place, she was apprehensive about working with the filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali, as she hadn’t seen any of his films. Moreover, she added how, at that time, she was without work and was rejecting many big opportunities. Kareena mentioned:
“I was actually without work. I hadn’t worked in a year and a half because I was saying no to big films. I was not getting the kind of film that I wanted. Films weren’t working, so I wanted to take a sabbatical for a year and a half. I think Imtiaz called up Shahid and narrated the film. We didn’t even know Imtiaz because he had just made Socha Na Tha. I hadn’t seen the film, Shahid I think had seen the film.”

Elaborating more about it, Kareena added how it was her ex-beau, Shahid Kapoor, who convinced her to take up the film, Jab We Met, and how he made her sure that the film would turn out to be great. In her words:
“Imtiaz came out of the blue and it so happened. He approached Shahid, and Shahid told me, ‘Hey, listen, you know, he’s going to approach you for this role and it’s great,’ and I was like yeah, I’ll work. I’ll do this movie. I never knew that it would be this iconic movie. I think Imtiaz always looked at me for that, that you’re not understanding what this character is.”

When Shahid shared why he chose to do Jab We Met despite knowing that his ex-GF, Kareena had a stronger part

In yet another of his previous interviews with Pinkvilla, Shahid spoke about the reason behind taking up the film, Jab We Met, despite knowing that it was the female protagonist, played by his ex-Gf, Kareena, who had a stronger part. The actor mentioned:
“When I heard the script, I completely loved it. I didn’t have the strongest part. I knew the female part was the strongest part in the film, still, I wanted to be part of the film. I felt it was a very relevant, new age love story where people were speaking like how normal people in their 20s speak, and not how people in their 40s acting to be 20s in movies speak. Imtiaz came up with something which was very real and relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted the film to be on my filmography.”
