Living in the world where everyone is running behind fitness, bullying over weight has become more prominent. People are trolled for being over-weight and under-weight, and actresses face this more than anyone else. South star, Raashi Khanna, who has been garnering praises for her portrayal of Aliyah in psychological crime thriller Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness.

In a recent interview, Raashii opened up on her experience of body-shaming in the initial days of her career in South cinema. The actress has worked in many Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil films. She recalled the bullying she faced and being called ‘gas tanker’ for her over-weight, and revealed that she struggled with PCOD.

In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Raashii was asked about the worst criticism she had faced in her career. She then recalled her initial days in South cinema. Though she is thankful to the roles she got, she mentioned that she was called a ‘gas tanker and stuff’ when she had started her career in the South.

Talking about the bullying she faced and the nasty remarks on her weight, Raashii said, “probably necessarily relating to my weight, because they used to say I am a gas tanker and stuff like that in the South when I started and I don’t say anything because I was quite big for the mainstream that they have. And I did become fitter in time, not to please anybody, but because I know that the job requires that. So I’ve faced all that bullying, online bullying, and stuff like that, and it honestly didn’t bother me.”

The actress also recalled her struggle with PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease), which made it hard for her to maintain her weight. She added that she used to wonder why the mean comments are bothering her as she knew she had PCOD, and people just know what they see on screen. She also stated that she is spiritual person, which helps her switch off from the negativity.

She said, “Yes, I was like ‘itna kyu faraq pad raha hai. Like I am still doing well and of course, I had issues, PCOD, all those jazz which everybody goes through. But that nobody knows, what they see is what they see on screen. So I can’t blame them. Initially it did hit me, but I am also a very spiritual person so it sorts of helps switch off. So I don’t care.”

For the unversed, Raashii had made her debut with John Abraham’s film Madras Café in 2013. Currently, she is shooting for the Tamil film Sardar featuring Karthi. She is also working on Yodha, which will mark her comeback in Bollywood.
