From the drafting to the architecture, everything has been done by Twinkle, who believes in decorating her home with things that have beautiful stories. Take a look at exclusive pictures of their dream home.

What would you call a house that overlooks the Arabian Sea and has a cosy pond in the middle of the living room? A house that has beautiful motifs and whose paintings scream feminism? A house where the sunlight peeps into the room through a beautiful orchard? This might be the description of your dream house, but a reality for Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna who live here with their lovely children and their pet dog. 

Recreating childhood

Akshay and Twinkle’s Juhu house opens up in a beautiful lawn that overlooks the Arabian sea. You can witness the grandeur of their abode right from its entrance that has a lush green orchard. From the drafting to the architecture, everything has been done by Twinkle, who believes in decorating her home with things that have beautiful stories.

Following this philosophy, she has filled her duplex apartment with family photographs and mementoes that were either collected by the family on their various trips or are gifts from the near and dear ones. 

One of the most important things that you will find in this house is a mango tree. Since there was a mango tree in the living area of Ashirwad, the famous house of Rajesh Khanna, Twinkle makes sure that there is a mango tree in every house where she lives. Twinkle narrates her childhood memory of the tree,

The duplex

The ground floor of their organic duplex has Akshay Kumar’s walk-in closet, a kitchen and a home theatre. Along with this, it has a beautiful living area that looks like a space blessed by Lord Buddha himself. 

It has a beautiful pond and a 13-part pendant light installation by Klove Studio. It also has a beautiful centre table from the house of Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

Close to the living room is the dining area, which provides just the perfect setting for the family to share their meals. It overlooks their orchard through a glass wall.

The first-floor roofs the bedrooms, Twinkle’s home office, a pantry and a balcony. This floor is completely Khanna’s vision. Grey is the most dominating colour, which makes the Italian style sofas look perfect.

Various European and South Indian silver sculptures grace this floor. Along with them hang powerful feminists paintings from artists like Rekha Rodwittiya and Shipra Bhattacharya.

Throwing light on so many different themes and colours that make their home, Twinkle said:
‘Clutter isn’t a bad thing. But you must organise your clutter so it looks neat: line it up according to a theme or colour, or intersperse it in your bookshelf.’

Twinkle Khanna completed their balcony with a daybed so that the family could play ludo and Backgammon, while enjoying the layers of blue and green visible from their balcony.

The family

Twinkle and Akshay wanted to live closer to their friends and family and this is one of the reasons why they shifted from Bandra to Juhu. Twinkle’s friend and business partner and Akshay’s sister live in the same building, while her mother’s home and his office and gym are just around the corner.
