Akshay Kumar, who will be next seen in ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, spoke about the time he faced 16 consecutive flops in his career. The actor was at the trailer launch of his upcoming film, where he spoke about the lukewarm response his recent films such as ‘Selfiee’ or ‘Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue’ have received. Akshay also mentioned that facing so many flops at one go didn’t deter him. Instead, he just ‘stood there’ and kept on working.

Akshay Kumar spoke about the poor box office performance of his latest films and said, ‘We keep on trying for every kind of film. I don’t stick to one kind of genre. I keep on jumping from one genre to another, whether there is success or no success, that’s how I have always worked from the beginning of the career and nothing has stopped me. I’ll keep on doing it; something that is social, good, comedy or action.”

“I will always keep on doing different kinds of (work). I won’t be sticking to one kind of thing because people say, ‘Sir, aaj kal comedy and action bohot chal rahe hai (I am told comedy and action is working these days)’. It doesn’t mean I should only do action. I start getting bored if I do one kind of thing and keep on trying something new. Whether it was ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’, ‘Airlift’ or ‘Rustom’, or many other films that I have done; sometimes success is there, sometimes it’s not’, he added. He also addressed the time he faced multiple flops in his career and how he braved it, “It is not that I have not seen (this phase before), there was a time when I had 16 consecutive flops in one go in my career. But I stood there and kept on working and I’ll still do that. This is one film this year for which we all have done lots of hard work and now we are going to see the results. We hope this is going to bring good luck to all of us.”

That was around the same time Akshay applied for a Canadian passport and got through. In a throwback interview with Aaj Tak on Seedhi Baat, the actor said, ‘I thought that ‘Bhai, my films are not working and one has to work’. I went there for work. My friend was in Canada and he said, ‘Come here’. I applied and I got in. I had just two films left for release and it is just luck that they both became superhits. My friend said, ‘Go back, start working again’. I got some more films and I kept getting more work. I forgot that I had the passport. I never thought that I should get this passport changed but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed.’

He then added, ‘India is everything to me. Whatever I have earned, whatever I have gained is from here. And I’m fortunate that I get a chance to give back. You feel bad when people say things without knowing anything.’

After ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, Akshay Kumar will be next seen in ‘Singham Again’, ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, ‘Hera Pheri 3’, and others.
