Akshay Kumar, set to star in ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, reflected on a challenging phase in his career when he faced 16 consecutive flops. At the trailer launch of his upcoming film, he openly discussed the lukewarm reception to recent projects like ‘Selfiee’ and ‘Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue’. Despite the setbacks, Kumar remained undeterred, emphasizing his resilience by stating he simply ‘stood there’ and continued working.

Regarding the box office performance of his recent endeavors, Kumar remarked, “We keep on trying every kind of film. I don’t stick to one kind of genre. I keep on jumping from one genre to another, whether there is success or no success, that’s how I have always worked from the beginning of my career and nothing has stopped me. I’ll keep on doing it; something that is social, good, comedy or action.”

Asserting his commitment to diversity in roles, he added, “I will always keep on doing different kinds of work. I won’t be sticking to one kind of thing because people say, ‘Sir, aaj kal comedy and action bohot chal rahe hai (I am told comedy and action are working these days)’. It doesn’t mean I should only do action. I start getting bored if I do one kind of thing and keep on trying something new. Whether it was ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’, ‘Airlift’ or ‘Rustom’, or many other films that I have done; sometimes success is there, sometimes it’s not.”

Recalling the time of his career when faced with numerous flops, he remarked, “It is not that I have not seen (this phase before). There was a time when I had 16 consecutive flops in one go in my career. But I stood there and kept on working and I’ll still do that. This is one film this year for which we all have done lots of hard work and now we are going to see the results. We hope this is going to bring good luck to all of us.”

Reflecting on obtaining a Canadian passport during a challenging period, Kumar shared, “I thought that ‘Bhai, my films are not working and one has to work’. I went there for work. My friend was in Canada and he said, ‘Come here’. I applied and I got in. I had just two films left for release and it is just luck that they both became superhits. My friend said, ‘Go back, start working again’. I got some more films and I kept getting more work. I forgot that I had the passport. I never thought that I should get this passport changed but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed.”
