Prominent Indian businessman Mathunny Mathews aka Toyota Sunny, who was instrumental in the safe evacuation of stranded Indians during the Iraqi invasion in Kuwait in 1990, passed away on Saturday (20th May 2017). He was known to be the hero who made possible the largest civilian evacuation known to history and the Bollywood blockbuster, Airlift was inspired by his courageous story!

He died at age 81 in Kuwait and his demise is being mourned by the masses. Akshay Kumar payed tribute to the real Airlift hero on twitter saying, “Extremely sad news, was an honour to portray him on screen. Thoughts and prayers with his family.”

Akshay Kumar’s National Award winning role as Ranjit Katiyal was inspired by the brave businessman.
