Marian Rivera reveals Zia’s growing fascination with makeup

Zia Dantes is turning eighth, and showing signs of getting enchanted by the magic of makeup at her age.

Little wonder, given Zia’s exposure from her early years to the grooming rituals of her glamorous mom, Marian Rivera.

Marian was full of stories about her daughter’s fascination with makeup during her meet-and-greet on Thursday, July 20, 2023, as the first local celebrity ambassador for the Italian cosmetics brand Kiko Milano.

The Kapuso actress opened, ”Mahilig! Siguro kasi nakikita niya every time sa bahay… nagme-makeup, may event na kailangan puntahan.

“May mga times na gusto niya ako makeup-an, sabi ko, ‘Sige anak, why not?’

“So baka pag nagawa namin yung video, ma-share ko in yung social media. Tingnan natin, rate natin siya.”

Marian also revealed that Zia even requested for a makeup pasalubong as she was getting ready for the Kiko event that day.

“Nagpapakuha ng makeup today! Sabi niya, ‘Mom, don’t forget my makeup. The color of the lips should be red.’

“So mamaya, ikukuha ko siya ng red lipstick. Kasi mahilig siya mag-makeup e. Mahilig siya.”

MARIAN RIVERA ON INTRODUCING MAKEUP TO ZIA

Aware of the appropriateness of grease paints at Zia’s age, Marian also saw in her girl’s precocious interest in makeup an opening to talk about what being beautiful was all about, and it had nothing to do with cosmetics.

At the same time, she wanted Zia, at the proper time, to be informed about makeup as a powerful tool for self-expression.

She said, “It’s the way how you express yourself. Ngayon kasi parang sinasabi na itong mundo, parang yung face mo is a canvas.

“It’s up to you kung paano mo gagawin yun para sa sarili mo to express yourself. So, for me, it’s definitely not for insecurity.”

“Kung yun yung feeling mo na magiging mas maganda ka, mas magbu-bloom ka, magiging mas makumpiyansa ka sa sarili mo, why not?

“Sarili mo, you manage yourself kung saan ka happy, yun ang gagawin mo.

“You [shouldn’t] care about what other people will say to you. Ang importante, kung saan ka maganda na tingin mo.

“Dahil yung mga girls, di ba, ‘Ay, ganda ko pag naka-red lips!’ [Tapos sasabihin nila] sa’yo, ‘Hindi ka maganda sa red lips!’ ‘Ay, hindi. Feel ko maganda ko!’

“So, doon… sundin mo kung anong feeling mo na maganda ka.”

DISCOVERING MAKEUP

At the event, members of the press were also curious about Marian’s makeup journey.

She revealed that she started investing in makeup when she entered showbiz, but prior to becoming a celebrity, she was perfectly content with a simple lip tint.

She recalled, “Siguro nung sobrang pumasok ako yung showbiz. Kasi way, way back, okay na ako sa mga lip tint.

“Pero nung nag-artista and part of the job talaga, so nag-invest na ako na kailangan talaga maganda yung quality ng makeup.”

Over time, Marian came to realize that wearing makeup was an integral part of her job as an actress and as a celebrity.

This understanding led her to embrace makeup and even learn the intricacies of applying it from her trusted makeup artists.

She said “Pinag-aralan ko siya, pag minemake-upan amo ng make-up artists nag-oobserve ako.

“So from there, kapag hindi ko alam, nagpapaturo ako. Like before, yung first ko si Bambbi Fuentes, and then Juan Sarte, and then si Steven Doloso.

“So lahat sila tinuturuan nila ako na parang, ‘Paano yung ganun yung blend? Ano yung magandang kulay for me?’

“So nakakatuwa na yung mga makeup artists na nagshi-share sila kung ano yung bagay para sa akin.”

When questioned about her current favorites, which are readily available in Kiko Milano stores and online, Marian highlighted these three specific items.
