On March 9, India hosted the grand finale of the Miss World beauty pageant at Jio World Centre in BKC, Mumbai. While India’s Sini Shetty lost the crown to Czech Republic’s Krystyna Pyszkova, Priyanka Chopra — who clinched the Miss World title back in 2000 — delivered a special message at the event.

Priyanka said, “Purpose, a word that has always held a lot of meaning for me, because of the experiences I’ve had personally. Growing up, I watched my mom Dr Madhu Chopra and my dad not only carry out their duties as doctors in the Indian Army, provide for us but also use their knowledge, position, talents to help those in need. I remember the countless hours my brother and I tagging along when they would use their days off to help those who didn’t have access to proper medical care. Now I’ve been very fortunate to continue my life’s journey surrounded by women who have redefined the absolute essence of womenhood. Their power, their beauty, and their ability to change the world.”

Priyanka also praised Nita Ambani, who received the Miss World Humanitarian Award at the pageant. She said, “I have had the honour and privilege of knowing the phenomenal Mrs Nita Ambani for a few years now. She is someone, whom I admire and respect for everything she does. I have witnessed what happens behind the scenes, and I have witnessed first-hand her passion, commitment, and eye for detail in everything she does. Over the years, I have witnessed Nita Ma’am’s profound impact through her various endeavours. She not only is a respectable educationist, philanthropist, and businesswoman but also a staunch advocate and protector of the arts of India.”

Priyanka went on to compliment Nita Ambani’s dedication in bringing ‘India’s art and culture to the global stage.’ She said, “Nita ma’am wears all of these hats and more with a warm smile and so much compassion. Her journey is the embodiment of the ethos of beauty with purpose.”

Recently, an old video resurfaced on social media, showcasing Priyanka’s winning answer during the pageant. During the last round at the pageant, Priyanka was posed with the question, “Who do you think is the most successful woman alive today and why?” Her heartfelt response highlighted her admiration for Mother Teresa, praising her compassion and selflessness. She said, “There are a lot of people I admire, but one of the most admirable people is Mother Teresa, who has been so compassionate, considerate and kind. She has achieved a lot for herself and for other countries. She gave up everything she ever had to make others life beautiful.” However, while emotionally stirring, Priyanka’s response contained a factual error as Mother Teresa had passed away in 1997.

Twenty-four years since her win at the Miss World pageant, Priyanka has ascended to global stardom. The actor was recently photographed at an event hosted by fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee in California, US. She dazzled in a black Sabyasachi saree, reminding fans of her iconic “desi girl” avatar.

Taking to social media, Priyanka expressed gratitude to Sabyasachi and shared glimpses of the stunning sequin and silk detailing on the saree. Paired with a black bandeau blouse, Priyanka opted for minimal jewelry and makeup at the event.

On the professional front, Priyanka is set to star in Heads of State alongside John Cena and Idris Elba, as well as The Bluff alongside Karl Urban. She is also expected to star in Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.
