Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated film Kalki 2898 AD has finally hit the theaters, captivating audiences with its blend of futuristic science-fiction and mythological elements. According to Hindu mythology, Kalki is the tenth and final incarnation of Lord Vishnu, destined to appear at the end of the Kali Yuga to destroy all evil and usher in the Satya Yuga, an era of truth and righteousness. In the film, Amitabh Bachchan’s character, Ashwatthama, reveals to Deepika that the child she carries is a god who will be the nemesis of the evil forces ruling the world.

As stated by News18, The Shrimad Bhagwat Purana describes Kalki as being born to an ascetic Brahmin named Vishnuyasha in the town of Shambhala, located in the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Wielding a blazing sword and riding a white horse, Kalki is tasked with annihilating the wicked and restoring righteousness. In Kalki 2898 AD, the setting is a place called Kashi, which is under the tyrannical rule of Yaskin, portrayed by Kamal Haasan. Deepika’s character, Sumathi, is the one carrying the prophesied child, and Prabhas’ character is assigned the task of capturing her, while Amitabh Bachchan’s Ashwatthama vows to protect Sumathi and her unborn child.

The film’s exploration of the Kalki legend and its integration with a futuristic, science-fiction narrative has generated immense anticipation among audiences. As the story unfolds, viewers are left intrigued by the questions surrounding the identity of Kalki and Padmavati, Kalki’s wife in the mythological texts, and how their roles will be portrayed in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki Cinematic Universe.
