Meghna Gulzar, who is busy promoting her upcoming film, ‘Sam Bahadur’, recently opened up about Deepika Padukone’s JNU visit before the release of their film, ‘Chhapaak’ in 2020.
Talking about the same, Meghna told Indian Express in an interview that Deepika’s visit to JNUthree days prior to the film’s release definitely ‘made a dent’ on the film. According to her, the conversation went from acid violence to somewhere else.The director added that her act impacted the film and there is no denying that.
‘Chhapaak,’ inspired by the true story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, follows the journey of Malti (played by Deepika Padukone) as she grapples for justice after a man perpetrates an acid attack on her face in retaliation to her rejection of his proposal.

In a surprise move in 2020, Deepika Padukone visited JNU, where student leaders were addressing a gathering condemning an attack on university students by masked individuals. She stood alongside the students at the Sabarmati T-point during a public meeting organized by JNU alumni. Although Padukone didn’t speak at the meeting, she spent an hour there before leaving.
Meanwhile, ‘Sam Bahadur’ explores the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, emphasising his sacrifices for the nation. The film pays a heartfelt tribute to his unwavering bravery and sharp wit. Sam’s career in the army spanned over four decades and five wars. He was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal and his military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war led to the creation of Bangladesh.
The film stars Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead roles. It is slated to hit the theatres on December 1. It will also be locking horns with the Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’ at the box office.
