Ranveer Singh is on cloud nine these days. The actor is receiving heaps of praises for his portrayal of Rocky Randhawa in his latest film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Rocky Randhawa is a flamboyant, macho, not-so-politically-correct West Delhi boy, while his love interest, Rani, played by Alia Bhatt, is an intelligent and fiercely independent Bengali girl. Their characters come from contrasting worlds, yet they strive to create their own unique world amid these polarised environments.

Interestingly, Ranveer’s real-life story bears some resemblance to the on-screen narrative. The actor comes from a Punjabi Sindhi family, while his better half, Deepika Padukone, is a proud Kannadiga whose father, Prakash Padukone, is a former national badminton player. During a recent promotional event for his latest film, Ranveer candidly shared about his equation with his mother-in-law, Ujjala Padukone, and how trust took time to build between them.

Talking about his mother-in-law, Ranveer said initially ‘unke palle hi nahi pada (she didn’t get it)’. “When we spent time with each other and understood each other, she understood jaisa bhi hai, dil saaf hai aur ladka acha hai (he is a good guy). Now, she is one of my favourite people and I am, most certainly, one of her favourite people,” he said while promoting the film.

Not just the audience and critics, Deepika Padukone also loved the flamboyance of Rocky Randhawa in the film. Earlier, Ranveer shared a video, announcing that Deepika loved Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The actress can be seen doing the steps of the film’s song ‘What Jhumka’ in the clip.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s love story blossomed after they starred together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela in 2013. After six years of being in a relationship, the couple tied the knot on November 14, 2018, in a destination wedding at Lake Como, Italy.
