Shah Rukh Khan reveals how he and Atlee fooled Deepika Padukone into doing a full-fledged role in Jawan

With the success of Jawan reaching new heights everyday, filmmaker Atlee and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan recently hosted a success bash for the movie in Mumbai. They opened up about the film and its shooting process, sharing anecdotes with the media. Deepika Padukone, who essays the role of Azad’s mother Aishwarya in the film, also attended the event. Having received a huge positive response from the critics and the audiences for her performance, during the event it was revealed she didn’t know that she was one of the main characters of the movie.

While talking about his reaction to the ‘thunderous response’ that film has received ever since its release, Atlee expressed how Jawan is a love letter he wrote to Shah Rukh Khan. The actor went on to add how he wants “one opportunity to love and with this love letter, I was completely overboard.” He went on to share how he and the filmmaker fooled Deepika into doing a full-fledged role in Jawan.

The 57-year-old shared how he is enjoying sitting with the cast and the crew of the movie, at the event, especially with Deepika who must be feeling awkward. Talking about the same he shared how he had approached her to do a short role in the film for their friendship. Quoted by DNA, SRK said, “She felt that I came to do a short role keeping our friendship in mind, but between me and Atlee, we made her shoot a full-length film and she didn’t even realize. So when she watched the film, she was like ‘oh, I was one of the main characters’, she didn’t even know. So she is very awkward sitting here, but thank you Deepika for being a part of this film.” 
Adding her side of the story, the 37-year-old actress explained how she realised that she was fooled at this stage. She explained how SRK had approached her when she was shooting in Hyderabad for Project K. The actress revealed how the star narrated the whole story of the movie and shared that she has to essay the role of Aishwarya. For her it was never about the length of the role but rather the impact the character would have in the entire film.

Talking about Jawan, the Atlee directorial has collected over 600 crores within a week’s time and is still running strong at the box-office. Apart from Shah Rukh and Deepika, the movie also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra, Aaliyah Qureshi, Lehar Khan, Priyamani and many others in pivotal roles.

On the work front, SRK will be next seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. Starring Taapsee Pannu, the movie is one of the most-awaited projects of SRK till date. His character Pathaan will also be seen making a cameo in YRF’s Tiger 3, co-starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi.
