What Karan said

“Shah Rukh is there, but I don’t think he wants to be in the forefront. He deserves his silence. As fans and filmmakers, we should give him that,” Karan said in the interview.

Shah Rukh has not been interacting with the media or appearing on talk shows since the detention of his son Aryan Khan in a drug case in 2021. However, his wife Gauri Khan appeared on the Koffee couch last season and even addressed what the family was going through back then.

Shah Rukh on Koffee with Karan

Shah Rukh kicked off the first-ever episode of Koffee with Karan back in 2004 with his co-star from three Karan Johar films, Kajol. The two were joined by their Kuch Kuch Hota Hai co-star Rani Mukerji in the season premiere of the second instalment.

In fact, Shah Rukh appeared thrice on Koffee with Karan Season 1, once along with Gauri in an episode that also featured then-couple Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan. He shared the couch with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham co-star Amitabh Bachchan in the season finale.

Shah Rukh went solo in Season 3, and kicked off Season 5 with his Dear Zindagi co-star Alia Bhatt. He addressed his absence from Season 4 by joking that he wanted the TRPs of the show to go down.

He didn’t appear on Season 6 because of a rumoured rift with Karan, which they eventually resolved. The filmmaker attributed the actor’s absence from Season 7 to the fact that he’d truly come out of the shadows with the release of Pathaan this year.

Koffee with Karan Season 8 will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar at 12 am on Thursday with an episode featuring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
