Salman Khan's 'Veer' co-star Zareen Khan granted interim bail in connection with a 2018 cheating case

A city court on Monday directed Bollywood actress Zareen Khan not to travel abroad without its permission in connection with a cheating case registered at Narkeldanga police station here.

After hearing Khan’s counsel, the Sealdah court granted her interim bail till December 26 on a personal bond of Rs 30,000 and barred her from leaving the country without obtaining prior permission from Kolkata Police.

Zareen Khan, who came to Kolkata from Mumbai, was also directed by the court to appear before it at every hearing.

The case dates back to 2018 when the actress allegedly took an advance of around Rs 12 lakh to perform at a Durga Puja function here. She, however, did not turn up following which the organisers lodged a complaint against her and her manager at Narkeldanga police station.

In September, the court issued an arrest warrant against Zareen Khan in connection with the case.

What happened?

Khan faced an arrest warrant from the Kolkata court in connection with an alleged cheating case dating back to 2018.

The charge sheet against the actress before the Sealdah court in Kolkata had been submitted by the investigating officer. However, the actress neither appeared before the court nor appealed for bail. The court issued an arrest warrant due to continue to her repeated absence for the hearing.

When asked about the arrest warrant, the actress said that she had no idea about it and told India Today, “I’m sure there is no truth to this. I’m surprised too and am checking with my lawyer. Only then will I be able to give you some clarity. In the meantime, you can speak to my PR.”

In 2018, Zareen Khan was scheduled to perform during a Durga Puja function in Kolkata. While organisers waited for her arrival, she didn’t turn up. According to police, one of the organisers filed a complaint against the actress and her manager and an FIR was registered against both of them and were asked to appear for questioning.

The actress didn’t show up for questioning and claimed that she was misguided that it was a big event and would be attended by many influential personalities including the chief minister of West Bengal. However, later her team found that it was a small event and there was miscommunication regarding traveling and accommodation after which, she skipped the event.

Police sources also said that Zareen also filed a complaint against the organisers in the local court. A chargesheet was filed against the actress and her manager after the investigation. While the manager appeared for questioning and sought his bait, Khan neither appeared for hearing nor asked for bail.
