Tiger 3 box office collection day 5: Salman Khan’s latest film is delivering big numbers at the box office, but isn’t performing to the level of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan.

Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3 will pass the Rs 300 crore gross mark at the global box office imminently, in less than a week of release. The action-thriller opened in theatres on Sunday, coinciding with the Diwali holiday. The film also made the most of the Bhai Dooj holiday a couple of days later, but has since been on a downward spiral that is more pronounced than it ideally should have been. YRF wouldn’t have expected the film to continue doing as well it did on its opening couple of days, but the day-to-day declines have been large. The ongoing cricket World Cup, which is in its knockout stage, also has a role to play in this.

On Thursday, its fifth day in theatres, Tiger 3 made an estimated Rs 18.5 crore, down from the Rs 21 crore that it made on day four. This takes the film’s domestic nett total to just under Rs 190 crore. The film’s gross domestic tally has now passed the Rs 200 crore mark, however. The film also went on to rule the global box office by collecting 271.50 Cr. gross in just 4 days.

Sacnilk reported that the film’s overall occupancy stood at a mere 16% for the main Hindi language version, while the token Tamil and Telugu versions reported day five occupancies in the same range, but with an astronomical difference in the number of shows. Tiger 3 is a direct follow-up to YRF’s Pathaan, which made more than Rs 1000 crore globally earlier this year. Pathaan opened on a Wednesday, and by a week, had also dropped below the Rs 20 crore mark. But the movie had a considerably bigger opening, and by day five, had already made nearly Rs 100 crore more, and over Rs 250 crore more worldwide.

What remains to be seen now is where Tiger 3 will stand in the overall scheme of things for the YRF Spy Universe, which seemed to be on the up and up after Pathaan. The film will most definitely overtake the first Tiger’s Rs 335 crore global gross in a day or two, but that film debuted over a decade ago. Tiger Zinda Hai, on the other hand, made more than Rs 560 crore worldwide. Salman’s biggest-ever film remains Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which made more than Rs 900 crore globally, and Tiger 3 is on track to become his biggest hit in six years, after a series of under-performers ranging from Bharat and Race 3 to Dabangg 3 and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. But the film’s Rs 300 crore budget might prove to be a dampener when the dust settles.
