We have often heard celebrities talking about how their kids are exposed to the limelight and the constant media scrutiny on them, things are no different with celeb families. No matter how guarded celebs keep their families from the limelight, media and netizens love to know about them and that’s where social media comes into play. Some celeb family members keep their social media profile private, to avoid unwanted attention, some are happy to give a glimpse of their personal life through pictures and videos. In her three-decade-long career, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had kept her personal life private and the Rai family also prefer to stay away from the media glare. But thanks to social media, once in a while, we get lovely glimpses of the Rai family.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had made her debut on Instagram in May 2018 and she often shares glimpses of her personal life on social media. Aishwarya’s blogger and influencer sister-in-law, Shrima Rai is an avid social media user and she often takes it to her Instagram to share pictures of her husband, Aditya Rai and their sons. During an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on Instagram, Shrima was asked how she had told her kids about their bua’s fame. To which, Shrima had said, ‘That is never a topic in my house. She is Gulu Maami at home.’

Through Amitabh Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s social media profiles, we often get inside sneak-peeks into the Bachchan family but rarely we have seen them together with the Rai clan in a picture. Scrolling through social media, we stumbled upon a throwback picture of the Rai and the Bachchan clans, posing together for a family picture at Shrima Rai’s godh bharai ceremony. The rare unseen picture has Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Krishnaraj Rai, Brindya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Rai, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shrima Rai in the frame, posing happily for a family portrait. The entire family had dressed in traditional as they had come together to shower love and blessings on then-mom-to-be, Shrima.

Speaking of godh bharai, it was in 2011 when the Bachchan and Rai families had hosted baby shower ceremonies for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan when she was expecting her first baby. After the godh bharai ceremony hosted by her mother-in-law, Jaya Bachchan at their residence, Jalsa, Aishwarya’s mother, Brindya Rai too, had organised one for her pregnant daughter in a Bandra hotel. For the South Indian style godh bharai ceremony, Aishwarya and Abhishek had twinned in shades of gold and olive green, and the then-mommy-to-be had accessorised her regal saree with traditional jewellery. Aishwarya had epitomised gorgeousness in a golden and olive-green silk saree, which she had paired with 3/4 sleeves matching blouse, gold jewellery and gajra on her hair, tied in a bun. Abhishek had donned an olive-green coloured kurta and white pyjamas.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s godh bharai ceremony was lit with diyas and was decorated with marigold and jasmine flowers, which are often taken as symbols of positivity and vitality. A picture that had gone viral shows then-to-be grandparents, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan showering their daughter-in-law with gifts and blessings. Another picture had Aishwarya’s mother performing aarti with a thaali in her hand. The pregnancy glow on Aishwarya’s face and the happiness on her family’s faces was something that cannot be missed in her godh bharai ceremony!

It is a rare moment when we get to see the Rai family, who prefers to stay away from media glare but all thanks to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her sister-in-law, Shrima Rai, that we sometimes get sneak-peeks of them like gold dust. On Raksha Bandhan 2019, Aishwarya had posted pictures from the celebrations at the Rai and Bachchan houses. Captioning it “Family Time”, Aishwarya had posted two family pictures, one with Brindya Rai, Aditya Rai, Shrima Rai, Aaradhya Bachchan in the frame and the other one with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Naina Bachchan, Navya Naveli Nanda, Agastya Nanda sharing the frame with her.
