Ranveer Singh recently shared how he learned to detach himself from characters over time and that his wife and actor Deepika Padukone guided him on achieving a healthy work-life balance.

Ranveer Singh has consistently acknowledged the difficulty he faces in separating himself from the characters he portrays, even long after the filming concludes. This challenge was particularly pronounced during the making of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat (2018). In stepping into the role of Alauddin Khilji, a menacing and cruel anti-hero, Ranveer delved into such profound negativity that he found it necessary to seek professional help from a psychiatrist to return to a state of ‘normalcy’.

Meanwhile, the actor recently shared how he learned to detach from these characters over time. Ranveer also said his wife and actor Deepika Padukone guided him on achieving a healthy work-life balance.

“In the early days especially, and until a few years ago, I hadn’t developed the mechanism to let go of the character or the emotion of the day. However, as you grow up and accumulate different tools and skills as an actor, you develop the ability to compartmentalise (the characters and emotions),” he said during an interview at the Red Sea Film Festival 2023 in Jeddah.

“It’s also something I learned from my wife. She’s a very fine artist herself, and there is a lot to learn from her as well. She’s the one from whom I picked this up, as she never brings work back home. That’s something I have cultivated by observing her. So, I am grateful to her,” he mentioned.

Mentioning that she helps him in both life and matters related to work, he added, “There are things that I have learned from her that have really helped me in my work. So, to have a life partner like that is hugely advantageous. She understands the challenges and difficulties and has tools and skills that you can learn from; and vice versa too.”

After winning hearts with his performance in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Ranveer Singh is currently working on Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, where he will reprise his role as Inspector Sangram Bhalerao from Simmba (2018).
