The ICC World Cup finals have been a nerve-racking event. The match was hosted at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. It was graced by many celebrities but the one personality who wasn’t visible throughout the stadium was Kapil Dev.

Kapil Dev, the former Indian captain who led India to a victory in 1983 was not Invited to the finals. In a statement, the cricketer said, “I wasn’t invited there. They didn’t call me, so I did not go.” He further added, “But I guess due to the fact that it’s such a big event and people are so busy handling responsibilities, sometimes they forget,” as reported by ABP News.

Celebrities such as Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Athiya Shetty, Sunil Shetty, and Ayushman Khurrana made it to the finals. However, what caught the most attention was that Ranveer was invited, who played the role of Kapil Dev in 1983. And the real person who led India to the World Cup was not Invited.

Fans couldn’t hold onto their rage and started expressing their disappointment on X. This led to trolling Ranveer in huge numbers. A user wrote, “Ranveer played his role in 1983 so convincingly that everyone believes to this day, that he is the real Kapil Dev and even BCCI looks like invited him instead of the World Cup winning captain.”

While another wrote, “1983 World Cup Winning Captain Kapil Dev Wasn’t Invited To Watch Final But We Can See Ranveer Singh Who Played Kapil Dev In Movie ’83 In Motera Stadium What A Shame!!!!!!!!!” A netizen wrote, “In New India:- Real Kapil Dev was not Invited but Duplicate Kapil Dev was invited in 2023 ODI World Cup !!”

Fans even brought up the fact that Neeraj Chopra was not featured on television by the BCCI broadcasters. While Ranveer was showcased 17 times in all during the match.

Ranveer Singh played the role of Kapil Dev in 1983, showcasing the epic win that occurred decades ago. Unfortunately, the film didn’t do well at the Box Office and earned a revenue of Rs 190 crore.

Despite the controversy, Kapil Dev penned down a heartfelt note for Rohit Sharma and uplifted his spirits. The cricketer wrote, “Rohit you are a master at what you do. You have a lot of success awaiting you it’s tough I know but keep your spirits up. India is with you.”
