It is a very well-known fact that Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were the most admired couple in Bollywood once upon a time.

Their love blossomed at the early stage of their careers but after two years of relationship, they broke the hearts of their fans with the news of their break-up. While, rumours were rife that the break-up happened because Ranbir cheated on her, however, there was no clarity apart from Deepika often passing some cryptic statements.

One such instance was when Deepika appeared on Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan accompanied by Ranbir’s Saawariya co-star and friend, Sonam Kapoor, following which their statements left Rishi Kapoor angry. As the ladies took their seats, they started roasting Ranbir. When Karan asked Sonam what she thinks of Ranbir, she said that the Rockstar actor is a “great friend” but she doesn’t know “if he’s a great boyfriend”. She further applauded Deepika for hanging onto Ranbir for so long, to which Deepika laughed and said, “Thank you”.

Sonam had said, “Ranbir is a great friend but I don’t know if he’s a great boyfriend. I have known Ranbir all my life and as a boyfriend, I don’t know, I mean, she (Deepika) did a great job hanging onto him for so long.”

It was rumoured that Ranbir cheated on Deepika with Katrina Kaif. The Gehraiyaan actor had also confirmed that she was cheated on in a relationship, but did not reveal the name of her cheating partner.

When the host asked if she would forgive him, she said, “One does forgive but then if it becomes a habit…then…” She was also asked about her opinion on Katrina, to which she said that she doesn’t know her well enough to like or dislike her.

n the second half of the episode, Deepika said that she would like to gift Ranbir a pack of c-nd-ms. She went on to say that if she ever woke up as Ranbir one day, she would like to go back to sleep. This did not go well with the late actor Rishi Kapoor and he went on to push back.

During his interaction with a tabloid, he had said, “Well to put things in the right perspective, all I can say is that with both the girls it is a case of sour grapes. I have known Sonam’s father Anil for years. All I will say to the girls is: instead of doing all this concentrate on your careers. Why do you run shows that have so much gossip?

I have done Koffee With Karan earlier with Neetu, my brothers and sister; there was great camaraderie and laughter on our show. We didn’t run anyone down. I don’t think you should encourage people to wash dirty linen in public. You will never see Ranbir running anyone down.”

He further suggested Deepika and Sonam “to stop giggling all the time and instead, grow up”. He continued saying that “they are there on the show because they are their father`s daughters and not because of their work! I would advise them to stop talking about their colleagues and running them down”.

Deepika, too, spoke to media about Rishi’s comments and said that she is entitled to her opinion and what was said on the show was meant in good humour and not to offend anyone. She clarified that she doesn’t need to bother what others think until her friendship with Ranbir is not affected.
