Musician Arijit Singh has opened up about how he shapes his voice. He said that when he started out, he wanted to be like Sonu Nigam, discussing how now people aim to be like ‘Arijit Singh’. The singer also revealed about his singing process and said that he has worked very hard.

On The Music Podcast, Arijit said, “It’s never about the voice; it’s just about the singing. I have worked very hard to create textures in my voice. It’s like sculpting your voice, because it’s not as if my voice matches Shah Rukh Khan. You practice a lot at night till your throat gets tired, and you go to sleep, when you record the next morning, your baritone opens up.”

When the host said, “Since the past 5-6 years, a lot of people want to become like Arijit Singh,” the singer replied, “Just how we wanted to become Sonu Nigam. Maa was my first Guru. I learned Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, and the basics from her.  You got to be in the music. Always on the beat. I am on the ‘Sa’ note. Even if I hear honking, it is in the ‘Re’ note, and when I hear the bell, I hear it in ‘Ni’ note. So obviously, I failed.”

Arijit also opened up about a fun incident and said, “They caught our ears, they took us out and said, ‘Robbery that happened last night,’ ‘They are the thieves.’” The singer then remembered someone telling him, “Play anything except for Arijit Singh’s song.” Arijit asked them, “I asked, ‘What will I get in return?’ We will have to crack a deal.”

The singer recently crooned the song ‘O Maahi’ from the upcoming film Dunki. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu in pivotal roles.
