During the India vs Australia World Cup final, Harbhajan Singh wondered how much understanding of cricket Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty have.

It wasn’t a good day for team India on ground, and for Harbhajan Singh on the internet. The former cricketer was slammed during the India vs Australia World Cup final by a section on the internet after his sexist remark against actors Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty went viral, questioning their understanding of cricket.

Anushka and Athiya were seated together at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, cheering for their respective cricketer husbands Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.

During the first innings when KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were batting, Harbhajan was doing the commentary and when the camera panned at the two actors, he was heard saying, “I was thinking whether the conversation is happening about cricket or films. Because I am not sure how much understanding they have about cricket.”

His comments naturally led to social media outrage within a section on X (formerly Twitter) as users slammed him for his “misogynistic” take. “Harbhajan Singh suggesting Anushka and Athiya lack cricket knowledge, saying ‘I don’t know if they’re talking about cricket or films, I don’t think they know much about cricket.’ Just doesn’t sit right, not coool,” a user wrote.”

“What’s with Harbhajan Singh’s misogynist comments on Anushka and Athiya?! “I don’t know if they’re talking about cricket or films, I don’t think they know much about cricket” Can the others in the commentary box ask him to stick to talking about those on the field?” another user wondered.

India vs Australia World Cup final was a star-studded affair, as Shah Rukh Khan was seen with his family–Gauri, Aryan, Suhana and AbRam–in the stands, as were Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone, Ayushmann Khurrana and Shanaya Kapoor.
