Throwback to the slapgate controversy, in which Kareena Kapoor was allegedly slapped by Bobby Deol’s wife, Tanya Deol.

Catfights are common in the glamour world, and we have often heard stories about actresses giving each other the cold shoulder. From Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon, Sridevi and Jayaprada, to Esha Deol and Amrita Singh, there have been many instances when actresses indulged in verbal spats.

In the early 2000s, Kareena Kapoor grabbed a lot of attention for her distasteful episode with the bong bombshell, Bipasha Basu. In connection with her tiff with Bipasha, Kareena also indulged in a heated argument with Bobby Deol’s wife, Tanya Deol. The fight between Kareena and Tanya extended to the point that it was alleged that the star wife slapped the Kapoor girl.

Kareena Kapoor and Tanya Deol’s fight began during the shooting of the film, Ajnabee. While actress, Bipasha Basu was new to the industry, Tanya decided to support her by helping her with the costumes for Ajnabee. However, Tanya’s act didn’t go down well with Kareena Kapoor’s mom, Babita, who allegedly decided to take the matter into her own hands and schooled Tanya for helping Bipasha.

Tanya, who didn’t approve of Babita’s approach shot back at her. This didn’t go well with Kareena, and she allegedly had an argument with the Deol bahu. Various reports claimed that the argument went too far, as Tanya lost her cool and allegedly slapped Kareena. Neither Tanya nor Kareena ever addressed the slapgate controversy, but the actress had been vocal about not liking Tanya.

In a throwback interview with Filmfare, Kareena Kapoor talked about her problem with Bobby Deol’s wife, Tanya Deol. In the interview, Kareena stated that she didn’t like the way Tanya spoke to her mother and shared she holds no grudge for Bobby. In her words:

“Actually, there was a problem with his (Bobby Deol) wife, Tanya. She didn’t behave properly with my mother. And I didn’t like that. I don’t deny a problem with Bobby’s wife. But I’m sure my problems with Bobby can be sorted out. There’s no negativity from my end.”

Later, when Bobby Deol appeared on the famous chat show, Koffee With Karan, the host, Karan Johar, tried to get details about his wife’s infamous fight with Kareena. However, Bobby looked unaware of the situation and laughed it out. Later, Karan confirmed that all was not well between Kareena and Tanya.

Years later, when Imtiaz Ali made the popular film, Jab We Met, Bobby was initially cast for the role of ‘Aditya Kashyap’. He was eager to play the role and told Imtiaz about it. But when Kareena came on board for the film, Bobby was replaced with Shahid Kapoor. Well, it was evident how stars and their lobbies work.

Kareena Kapoor called Bipasha Basu ‘Kaali Billi’

Kareena Kapoor’s infamous fight with Tanya gained a lot of attention at that time, and so was Kareena’s public spat with Bipasha Basu. During the making of the film, Kareena’s designer, Vikram Phadnis, went on to help Bipasha Basu without the former’s consent, and a huge fight broke out after that. It was also reported that the spat had gone so ugly that Kareena called Bipasha ‘Kaali Billi’. On the other hand, Bipasha had called Kareena’s behaviour ‘childish’ and had said that she never wanted to work with her again.

Kareena went on to take a jibe at Bipasha in one of her interviews with Filmfare and claimed that the latter lacked confidence. In her words:

“She just doesn’t seem to have any confidence in her own talent. In a four-page interview, she spoke about me for three pages. Why not talk about your work? I think her only claim to fame is that she fought with me during Ajnabee over dress designer Vikram Phadnis. She’s given statements that I called her uncharitable names. Now, that’s a figment of her imagination.”

Fights, arguments and controversies are part of the glamour world. If some celebrities share a great rapport, there are some who cannot see eye to eye. Kareena Kapoor and Tanya Deol are the perfect examples of it.
