Jacqueline Fernandez’s YOLO foundation and CAP launch water bowl campaign for stray animals amid heatwave
Jacqueline Fernandez’s YOLO Foundation, in collaboration with the Citizens for Animal Protection Foundation (CAP), has spearheaded a campaign to distribute 1,000 water bowls for stray animals across Mumbai and its suburbs.
This initiative, launched in response to the intense summer heat in April and May, addresses the pressing need for accessible water sources for street animals suffering from dehydration and heat stress.
Jacqueline Fernandez, the renowned actress and founder of YOLO Foundation, expressed her commitment to the cause. ‘Street animals are often overlooked during extreme weather conditions, and it’s our duty to ensure their well-being. By distributing water bowls across the city, we aim to make a significant difference in their lives.
I urge everyone to join us in this initiative and help provide relief to these vulnerable animals,’ she stated.
Sushank Tomar, Managing Director of CAP, highlighted the critical timing of the campaign. ‘May was extremely challenging due to the intense heat; it was the hottest month we’ve experienced. Even we humans struggled to go outside. To help street animals cope, we launched a campaign to distribute water bowls in Thane and Mumbai,’ he explained.
The initiative strategically placed water bowls in high-density animal areas, ensuring they are regularly refilled by local feeders and caregivers.
In locations lacking designated feeders, community members, security guards, and house helpers took on the responsibility of maintaining the water supply. Additionally, water bowls were placed near trees to benefit birds, further extending the campaign’s impact.
This initiative not only provides immediate relief to street animals but also raises awareness about animal welfare in urban environments.
The YOLO Foundation and CAP’s efforts underscore the importance of community involvement in protecting and supporting the well-being of stray animals, particularly during extreme weather conditions.
