While Alia won the award for her superb performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kriti rightly deserved it for her career-best performance in Mimi.

Koffee With Karan season 7 episode 9: When Karan Johar asked Kriti Sanon if she’s jealous of the country’s best actress, Alia Bhatt

However, soon after the results were announced, a viral video from Karan Johar’s celebrity chat show, Koffee With Karan 7, went viral on the internet. In episode 9 of the chat show, Karan hosted Kriti along with her Heropanti co-star, Tiger Shroff as they talked about a series of juicy things. The actress looked stunning in a pink outfit, while Tiger wore a yellow-hued suit and a white shirt.

 

It was a fun-filled conversation until Karan Johar mentioned Alia Bhatt and faced a lot of backlash once the episode was live. The show’s host, Karan asked Kriti Sanon whether she’s jealous of Alia, who is ‘country’s best actress’.

Although Karan Johar tried his best not to look like a fanboy of Alia Bhatt, the question left the audience furious as they bashed Karan for never missing a chance to praise Alia. Karan said:
“What about envy or competition or jealousy sometimes with your contemporaries, like you know, is there that sense of, ‘I need to do it and look beyond my shoulder’ and do better than her (Alia)? And do better than everybody and perform as an actor? Like there’s so much chatter about Alia being the best actor in the country. Is that an acceptance at your level or is it also driving you to kind of get there yourself?”

As soon as Karan Johar ended his question, Kriti Sanon gave a fitting response to it. The Mimi actress admitted that just like any actor in the world, she also feels motivated and inspired whenever she sees another actor giving a wonderful performance.

However, in the middle of Kriti’s answer, Karan Johar interrupted her and mentioned the name of Alia Bhatt’s film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, when Kriti said, ‘When I see good work’. Continuing her answer, Kriti added that she would love to get more scripts like Mimi. She said:
“I feel of course it drives me. It aspires me to do better. When I see great work,” Karan interrupted and mentioned, “Like Gangubai Kathiawadi”. Kriti added, “yeah, and see you also feel that you know, I would love to have an opportunity like that and I would love to have something because I feel like Mimi as an opportunity when it came to me, it gave me that confidence to put in so much into that film.”

It wasn’t the first time Karan Johar ran the narrative of Alia Bhatt being the best actress in Bollywood. Hence, netizens lashed out at the producer and told him to stop promoting Alia. While one user mentioned Vidya Balan and how she never got the appreciation for her tremendous work, another netizen took a dig at Alia’s performance in RRR opposite South Indian actors.
